Iparana Arte Estudio August 2007

Dear Friends,

I am now safely arrived at Iparana. Thankyou for all those who have prayed and helped us during these past months. For those that do not know, my mother Dorothy passed away in February. I am so grateful the Lord let me speak with Mum on her last good day before she became ill for the last time. I flew back for the funeral and stayed in the UK sorting Mums affairs and various things out also did some fencing work to earn money. I returned to Brazil in July.

Weather at the moment here is hot and sunny. Iparana is a beautiful place, faraway from all the cold rain and bad weather in the UK, the coffee is wonderful, lots of fruit and good food etc, but there is another side to living here. We are a world away from the UK...here is real poverty and no social security. One example in the UK we have so many toys for children they have become easily bored. But here one will see children fighting in the street over a single balloon. Food is a major issue for families living in the favela and so is medication. At Iparana Studio we hope to make a difference to their lives and future.

Main Street of local Favela

A house in the favela - it is unsafe to live in and the family had to move to a friends house.

While I was away Josi started doing bible and puppet presentations to a local Favela/Slum - And since getting back I have been pleased to see the progress made while I have been away and the contacts made. Since then we continue visiting the Favela once a week the children are so happy when we have puppet presentations and Bible stories. We really would like the opportunity to start a church and school also a soup kitchen for basic nutrition but all this depends on many things and taking one step at a time. At the moment there is no Christian witness to the Favela apart from ourselves.

A property at the favela we would like to purchase to start the project, To get the project started and purchase it, we need to raise £1,500.

Please pray according to how the Lord leads and if you believe led to help in anyway. Please contact us or donate through PayPal below

Mani my Caseiro/Caretaker told me that one of the bricklayers that worked for me last January and February, Desan has become a Christian, he has changed his life, he said it was because of what he heard during the morning devotionals we had before we start work in the morning. It does our hearts good to hear this and we praise the Lord for the Gospel that has the power to change lives for good. Please pray for Desan and his family.

Carys and Deborah at the local favela.

Our visitors from the UK, Carys Jones and Artist Deborah Ford have had a wonderful time experiencing life here and helping the project, their efforts are greatly appreciated and they have made lots of new friends here amongst the children and young people they taught. We are so glad the Lord brought them here and has blessed their time and we pray they will return one day.

My 28 year old VW Brasilia continues to provide lots of laughs wherever ever we go. When I got back this time. I was really concerned if this really was the end of the road for the Brasilia. But it's ability to keep running never ceases to amaze, the windows don't work and the bodywork surprises me how it holds together... but it keeps on running. Praise the Lord!

I have been looking to buy another vehicle. But to buy the right one is quite alot of money.

Josi, has opened the school for the new term. The school is looking very professional with uniforms for both staff and children. Josi is doing an amazing job along with her helpers. Financially we are hard pressed but we continue to trust the Lord to provide.

Our puppet team continue to meet twice a week for practise we have been invited to do a puppet presentation at a slum in the city where a YWAM team are working.

There is much more we could say but we leave you with these things on our hearts

God bless and thankyou for your support and prayers
